I recently had the opportunity to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Rest House. During the war, the building was used as the Hiroshima Prefecture Fuel Distribution and Control Association office and was called the “Fuel Hall.”
It was the former workplace of the founder, Tadaaki Fukunaga, who was allowed to be one hour late the day after an air raid, so he was still at home 13 km away at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945, when the atomic bomb was dropped. All 37 employees who were inside the Fuel Hall building were killed, except for one who was in the basement.
The windows of his house 13 km away were all broken by the blast, and the roof of the house was lifted off.
By chance, he was able to survive because he decided to work one hour later than normal, besides unless he joined the predecessor company of Santai Sangyo, we do not exist now.
